TIPS

  • Take out your butter to have it room temperature for mixing. You might be tempted to soften it in the microwave but that gets it way too soft for baking cookies! According to all recipes, this is a great way for getting butter to soften quickly ~LINK By doing this as your first step the butter will be softened for your recipe.
  • Preheat the oven to the desired temperature. Most ovens preheat in about 20 minutes.
  • Organize your baking utensils. Having your measuring spoons out as well as your mixing bowl and mixer will make things quicker once you start mixing up your cookies.
  • Once your cookie dough is mixed well it’s time to put in your trays. Chocolate chip and most drop cookies should be placed on the cookie tray (sheets) by dropping with a cookie scoop. Leave about 2 inches between each cookie. If you are making large cookies you may need even more room between cookies.

  • Sugar cookies need an extra step of rolling the dough out and cutting with desired cookie cutters
  • Cookies bake better and spread less if your dough is chilled. You can place your tray in the refrigerator for about 30m minutes or even freezer for about 15 minutes.
  • Once chilled you can put your cookie tray right in the oven. Don’t forget to start your timer!
  • Ovens all bake a little differently so be sure to set the timer for the minimum time of the recipe. You may have to add a minute or 2 to be sure they are baked.
  • Remove cookies from the hot tray and place them on a cooling rack. This helps cool the cookies quicker in case you have eager helpers wanting to frost the sugar cookies!
  • Of course with baking, each and everyone’s cookies will turn out a bit different! I can only guide you through the steps and do can not guarantee the outcome of your baked cookies! Like in so many things practice does make perfect in cooking baking!
